Saffron comes to the Mount Errigal Hotel

Last week I was invited to officially open Saffron beauty salon at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny! Anjali, the proprietor is renowned for owning several stunning salons around Ireland and this latest venture in the hotel is set to be a prosperous one for her and her team.
When I arrived I was shown into one of the large function rooms in the hotel where the beautifully decorated room had been set up for over 100 guest to have a glass of champagne, some nibbles and some beauty demonstrations by some of the top ladies in the industry.
Lee Gooch, presenter from Highland radio was the host for the night and he was hilariously roped into trying out some of the beauty treatments from the Dermalogica Skin Scan to "Sugaring", a natural alternative to waxing - poor Lee was even forced to eat the sugar formula before having to endure the process of getting his nose hair "sugared"by Pamela from Alexandria Sugaring.
Myself and fellow guest for the evening Jennifer Wrynne were briefly interviewed on stage before we all made our way down to the new salon space where Jennifer and I cut the ribbon and officially opened the salon.
The salon itself is fabulous, beautifully decorated in a colour scheme of black, white and silver and by the sounds of the treatment lists, anyone who visits is in for an absolute treat. They offer a vast range of treatments from the usual facials and waxing to more unusual ones like the sugaring that I had mentioned previously. This is one that I definitely cannot wait to try out for myself as it is supposed to be much more gentle on skin than waxing and can be done with much less time between treatments so you can kiss goodbye to weeks and weeks of wearing trousers waiting for a leg wax.  I really cannot wait to head up and experience this stunning salon for myself.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Carolynne & the team at the Mount Errigal for inviting me to open the salon and to Anjali for the wonderful experience & goody bag.
I wish her every success in her new venture and I am so looking forward to my next visit.

Fashion Fest 2015

Last week I had one of the most incredible experiences of my design career to date (I know it has only started but it has been a roller coaster already).
I had the chance to show two of my collections at FashionFest 2015 in Derry/Londonderry.
the build up to this event has been ongoing for months and months where myself and many other designers went through a very tight selection process to be chosen for inclusion in the trade fair event on the Thursday and the Gala Fashion show on the Saturday night.
Eddie Shanahan, Chairperson of the Council of Irish Fashion Designers, was the brains behind the Trade Show and we were lucky enough to have one on one mentoring with him in the run up to the event where he advised and guided us with the development of our brands and really helped me to push mine to the next level.
For the trade show, I had my Spring/Summer 2016 collection on display. I received incredible feedback as well as a few orders from visiting buyers on the day. My new bright, bold colours really stood out and I was delighted with the amazing reaction that I had from everyone on the day. I also wore a piece from the new collection, which, as a fashion addict, is always an honour, especially when people ask where my outfit is from and I can say "I designed it myself".
For the Gala fashion show in St. Columbs hall, I showcased my Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, which also had a fantastic response by many audience members. This included guest designer on the night, Helen Cody, who wants to commission one of my print designs for her own collection. I also wore a piece from my S/S'16 collection (seen above) which is one of my favourite pieces so far.
I would like to say a huge thank you to the team at the Fashion & Design centre, Derry & strabane District Council and Tracey & her stunning models from Style Academy for doing my collection such justice in the fashion show!
I could not be happier with the progress I have made in my design career so far. Considering I just graduated last month and already have three collections produced along with some amazing new ventures for 2016 it is onwards and upwards for "Nicola McLaughlin". I just hope you guys join me for the journey!

Stark Naked

I am a huge fan of nude lips at the minute. It is my "go-to" look for during the day and I often rock it for a night out too - so I'm constantly checking out new brands and versions of the nude colours.
I recently received this Urban Decay lip-liner thanks to "The Loop" in Dublin & Cork Airport and I fell in love with it. The colour is "Stark Naked" and it is so subtle that its barely there but gives just the right amount of colour and definition to complete your make up look.
I tend to apply the liner around the very edge of my lips which gives them a lot more volume and makes them look more plump than they actually are.
As a brand ambassador of The Loop I am proud to say that all of their products are at least 15% cheaper than you can find on the high street so be sure to check them out next time you are flying! You can pick up amazing brands and bargains, perfect for your holiday or with the click & collect program they can be there waiting for you upon your return!

Autumn Layers

With this current weather it is very rare that I get a chance to do a proper outfit post outside so I thought I would share this one that I took on the very last of the sunny days before the Winter really set in!
I love the layered look, especially in Autumn as its not quite cold enough for the Winter woolies but not warm enough for T-shirts and sandals so it is just perfect for adapting to the ever changing forecast.
The leather coat I am wearing in these pictures is probably one of my favourite items that I own. Its from All Saints and can be worn open as I wore it here, or buttoned right up to have a funky cowl neck. I matched it with an asymmetric top and black leather skirt, both from River Island and then added some snake print boots from Office that I picked up in London during the Summer.
Have you gotten used to the fact that Winter is now officially here? Or are you still clinging to the Autumn like me? I just want to go to sleep and wake up in the Spring!!
