Fashion Futures - My Design Debut

I am so proud to say that last night I showcased my design work on the catwalk for the very first time at the Fashion Futures event in conjunction with Fashion Fest.
The idea behind the show was that designers paired up with a local shop or boutique and designed a piece which could potentially retail in their store.
I got matched with one of my favourite shops - Boudoir Boutique and spent a long time discussing with Fiona - The Proprietor of the shop, about what styles and colours sell best for her.
As I am predominantly a textile designer, I, along with Fiona, decided that we would go for a more commercial shape as opposed to an avant garde piece and let the prints speak for themselves.
Boudoir is a locally owned shop so I decided to make my print relevant to Derry/Londonderry. If you look closely at the print you will find lots of little pieces from the cities culture and history such as images from the famous graffiti and the "Free Derry" corner which is famous worldwide.
I really wanted to give my piece a very personal touch whilst keeping my colours and style relevant to those found in Boudoir Boutique.
I was blessed with a very stunning model on the night whose fierce and confident look not only did my dress proud but led her to win the "Face of Fashion Fest" competition which took place during the event.
It was such an emotional yet exciting moment for me to see the first of my designs on the catwalk and it really made me look forward to a future filled with many more moments like this.
The icing on the cake was to see another of my dress designs displayed on a mannequin in the newly opened Fashion Hub where many fashion greats such as Wayne Hemingway, Sonya Lennon & Janet Holbrook had the chance to see it and read about my background.
Fashion Fest is a truly amazing event for the city and I am delighted to see the talents of my local area finally coming to the foreground. It was an honour to be a part of it and I really look forward to the rest of the shows over the coming few days.
For any info on placing orders for my designs please do get in touch with me via Facebook (The Sequin Cinderella) or email (Nicola@thesequincinderella.com)

FashionFest Derry/Londonderry

Fashion Fest 1

This week will see the launch of Derry/Londonderry's first ever FASHIONfest and I for one could not be more excited. As a blogger, I have spent numerous hours on the road travelling to fashion shows all over the country and now to have so many right on my own doorstep is super exciting. It also means so much more to me as one of my designs will be making its debut on the catwalk at the Fashion Futures event which will take place on Thursday night at the Maldron Hotel (formerly the Tower Hotel).
The events kick off in style on Wednesday night with the amazing launch party, followed by the Industry Focus workshop on Thursday which will gather together some of the biggest names in fashion. The Fashion Futures event takes place on Thursday night, this is a competition for both models and designers and I cannot wait to compete myself.
Friday is the wedding fashion showcase and the whole event finishes off on Saturday evening with the designer showcase. There will also be numerous pop-up shops and workshops going on throughout the city over the course of the 4 days.
For any more info on prices or events just scroll down through the pictures as I have been sure to photograph each page of the brochure just for you - It is sure to be an exciting few days and it is so exciting to have it all happening so close to home!

NKD SKN Tinted Tan Liquid

IMG_3158

If you follow my blog, you will know that one of my favourite fake tans is NKD SKN by Vita Liberata. I am a huge fan of being bronzed but when I wear tan, I really love for it to look natural and to smell nice. This seems to be a big ask when it comes to most tans but not with NKD SKN. It is very easy to apply using the tanning mitt and has a really even finish. I never feel like I am overdone, or "Oompa Loompa'd", just sunkissed and glowing.
I initially tried the NKD SKN "Tinted Tan Mousse" which I absolutely fell in love with, so I was excited to try the new "Tinted Tan Liquid" to see if it measured up.
I have to say it was every bit as smooth, easy to apply and beautiful on the skin.
I very rarely recommend a product that I don't fully believe in, but I have to say, I am a true NKD SKN/Vita Liberata fan! The tans are all very reasonably priced too so they won't break the bank - but for those of you who do wish to try the Vita Liberata products, I can offer you a very special 45% discount code on the vitaliberata.co.uk website up until the 17th of November. All you have to do is go to the checkout and enter the code SEQUIN45.
Now don't say I never treat you :)

Exhibit Look One

IMG_3383

Unless you have been hiding under a rock this season then you will know that the blanket poncho is the ultimate in chic this season. Filtering down from the Burberry runway to the high street stores and gracing the backs of some top celebs such as Carla Delevingne and Olivia Polermo, this is a trend set to keep a lot of us warm and cosy this winter, regardless of our budgets.
I received this beautiful grey one thanks to Exhibit and I absolutely fell in love with it! Its so comfortable, stylish and most importantly, incredibly affordable at just £14.
I styled mine with a plain and simple black leather top and skirt combo and added a bit of mismatch pattern clashing with my leopard print brogues.
Let me know what you think of this beautiful piece of knitwear and keep your eyes peeled for my next looks from Exhibit's Autumn/Winter range.

Halloween 2014

Image

As a drama teacher and fashion obsessive, its pretty obvious that Halloween would be one of my most favourite times of the year. I was absolutely gutted when I woke up yesterday morning with the flu and had to make the decision not to go out… but come 6pm I decided I simply couldn't miss out on the fun so sick or not, I raided my wardrobe and dug out my facepaints to create my own spooky skeleton. I also managed to persuade my boyfriend to join in - considering we put the costumes together in an hour, I was pretty pleased with the results.
What did you guys dress up as? I would love for you to tag me in your best costume pics on instagram - @thesequincinderella or Twitter - @sequincinderela and I might even feature my favourites on my blog & facebook page!
