Sports Luxe

IMG_4523

One trend that really seems to be surviving throughout the seasons and is going from strength to strength for S/S'14 is "Sports Luxe".
From baggy blazers to slouchy sweat pants, this style is ideal for any fashionista who likes to be comfortable and still remain stylish!
As a student, this is one of my "go to" trends for those rainy days in college but I cannot wait to carry it over into the brighter days with the loose fitting shorts and funky t-shrirts.
These joggers from Topshop are the perfect way to embrace the style and stand out from the crowd! Due to the fact that they make such a statement, I decided to keep the rest of the look simple, opting for black leather boots and a waterfall jacket from River Island.
Have you embraced this look yet? If so then let me know your thoughts.

Victorian Corsetry

IMG_0855

As most of you know, I took a little break from blogging after the death of my beloved Grandmother. I just took a while to totally shut off from normal life and mourn for her. Although my heart is still aching, my blog is very much an important part of my life so I feel it is now the right time to get back to it and even dedicate it to her memory!
For my come back post I wanted to show you something very special to me and that is the second item of clothing that I designed and made myself as part of my fashion course.
( I showed you my first skirt HERE)
Just before Christmas I opted to take part in a Victorian Corsetry course with the very talented Sandra Thomson who came over from Glasgow to share her skills with us!
From initial pattern drafting to the finished product, she taught us to make the entire corset ourselves from scratch.
I wanted to veer away from the modern day preconception of corsets - people think of sexy silks, Moulin Rouge or Burlesque, and although these are beautiful items, I wanted to create something a little  more unique that I would be likely to wear myself.  I decided on this camouflage print as I felt it could be subtle and classy with a funky edge.
In the photographs I have the corset tied comfortably so that I can breathe naturally but as it is designed like the real Victorian Corsets, when tied properly, it takes a full 3 inches off my waist!
A tempting prospect for any women but one that is not entirely comfortable…
In fact, when I tried it out for myself, it made me thankful that I was not born in the Victorian era in which wearing one was a must!
I hope you like my design and I would like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who supported me over the last week throughout my grief and for continuing to support my blog, even whilst I was MIA. For that I am eternally grateful!

My Original Style Icon - A Tribute

1888746_672297522812658_1830596084_n

This week I lost one of the most precious people in my life - My beloved Grandmother.
I am at a loss for words to even remotely describe the heartbreak that I am feeling at this present moment.
I am sure you will all understand that at this difficult time, I am finding it hard to comprehend returning to normal life - getting dressed up, going out and about, blogging etc. so I wanted to leave this tribute to my very special friend until she hopefully grants me the strength to return.
My Grandma was the epitome of style and class - a true lady! She always dressed to perfection and from I was a very small child she encouraged in me, a love of fashion and style.
In the above photo you can see herself and my Grandfather, whom I know she is now reunited with in happiness - they were indeed a very stylish couple and to me, this picture looks like a paparazzi shot of two movie stars. I can see so much of myself in her as she, along with my beloved Mother, have made me the person I am today. I hope that throughout her life and beyond I have always and will always make her very proud.
I cannot thank everyone of you enough for your help, support, comments, calls, visits etc. at this very sore time in my life. To find a positive in a very, very negative situation, it has shown me the true beauty in human nature and made me realise how blessed I am to have such a wonderful family and some truly incredible friends. Anyone that knew me, knew the very special bond that we shared - a bond that went much deeper than simply "Granddaughter and Grandmother" and it was such a pleasure and an honour to have shared my life, my friendship and my love with her.
I am so grateful to have been with my Grandma when she passed away and get the chance to tell her how much she meant to me.
I am more than proud to be able to call this amazing woman my role model, my best friend and my Angel.

The "Boyfriend" Shirt

IMG_0651

Sometimes theres nothing better than a "Boyfriend" style shirt to make you look and feel effortlessly stylish! This was always one of my "go to" looks when I want to be comfortable but still feel dressed. I bought this shirt in Jack Wills and as is the norm for me when it comes to buying shirts, I went for two or three sizes bigger than I would normally wear. In my opinion, the baggier the better when it comes to tucking in a shirt!
For a day of shopping in Dublin, I paired this one with a simple black pencil skirt from River Island and my favourite handbag, the Louis Vuitton "Surya", a few subtle accessories and the look was complete!
This shirt is available in several colours so of course I had to buy a few of them, but do check out Jack Wills website (www.jackwills.com) and I am sure you will find the perfect one to suit your taste!
And if all else fails? Raid the wardrobe of the man in your life! :)
