Rock and Baroque

IMG_4505

When I am in a fashion dilemma and have no idea what to wear I generally tend to go for black, black and more black... Its safe, its flattering and it is easy to wear.
As much as I detest the word "safe" when it comes to clothing, sometimes we all have our days where we pick the easy option. However, playing it "safe" should not mean that we blend in with the crowd.
They key to spicing up an otherwise boring ensemble is your accessories.
This outfit, made up of a tutu skirt from Primark and a spiked shoulder t-shirt from Exhibit had the potential to be, dare I say it, plain. Yet when I started adding some "Rock and Baroque" pieces the look really started to come together.
I got the embellished belt in River island, which, when mixed with some stacked bracelets from Primark, added just the right amount of bling without over doing it.
I had originally chosen black opaque tights but instead I decided on these Jonathon Aston "stocking tights" to give it that little something extra. My bowler hat and some fierce red "MAC" lipstick completed the look.
How do you accessorise your "play it safe" outfits? Or do you like to keep it simple?
