"Bringing Home the Birkin"

IMG_0650

One of my favourite light hearted fashion novels is "Bringing Home the Birkin" by Michael Tonello.
It is about a man who unlocks the secret Hermes code.
Many women wait for years and years on a waiting list of unknown length to finally be "the chosen one" who gets to purchase a highly coveted Birkin handbag. Michael on the other hand discovered a technique that allowed him to purchase one in almost every Hermes store he set foot in, without waiting more than five minutes never mind five years. The journey follows him through comic interactions, firm friendships, tragic turns and shopping sprees of epic proportions.
Who would have thought that a book about handbags could lead you on such an emotional roller coaster? Definitely a worthwhile read!
Here for you are some pictures of myself with my very own piece of Hermes treasure.
The Gold togo leather Birkin 35.
I kept my look quite sleek and casual with high-waisted jeans from Topshop, a frilled shirt from Identity boutique and a hint of leopard print with my River Island heels.
I also added some Hermes accessories with an orange clic-clac bangle and an "H" belt!
Hope you like!

I shall be writing my next blog post from the beautiful Greek Island of Crete as I am off on holidays on Friday for a fortnight! I am looking forward to taking lots of pictures and sharing my holiday experience with you.
If you have ever been to Crete and have any advice on good restaurants etc. please let me know!
Thanks!
Nicola x

Forgotten Storm

IMG_6550

More often than not we don't appreciate the beauty that we have on our front doorstep.
This week Co. Donegal, Ireland was hit with torrential rain so bad that the river running through my home town burst its banks. The beautiful Swan Park was amass with floods and the winding pathways became flowing rivers. I only wish I had been brave enough to don the waterproof clothing and check it out. However, today I decided to go and have a look and I was in for a surprise...
There was no evidence of rain or floods or upheaval of any description. The park was its beautiful peaceful self with only the noise of the river as soundtrack to a calming walk.
The grass greener than ever and the trees swaying gently.
In fact, the only thing causing any kind of a stir was my sequin jacket. An abundance of colour and glitz reflecting the evening sun, sparkling through the trees.
To match the jacket I chose a pair of my favourite flared jeans, which I had not worn for a while.
I completed the look with a pair of patterned platform sandals and feather earrings to add a touch of softness.
In Nature as in fashion, it is easy to overlook the simple things. Like the beauty in a trusted pair of jeans, or the flowers that bloom after a storm.

The Summer House

IMG_3753

I live for days of lounging around in the Summer sunshine, yet when the weather is dull and dreary, what better substitute is there than a beautiful Summer house?
Wearing a floral print jumpsuit and diamante sandals from River Island, I took shelter from the rain in this beautiful hidden haven in the peaceful country side of Antrim, Northern Ireland.
My outfit may have been geared for the warmth but the weather was definitely channelling mid-Autumn.
The Summer house belongs to my best friend's wonderful mother Lynne and by its quaint decor and welcoming atmosphere I can tell it is a much loved and cherished space for herself and her family to relax and enjoy.

The handbag I wore with this look is one of my all time favourites - The Louis Vuitton "Surya."
It is incredibly versatile and functional whilst still remaining chic and elegant.
A combination no woman can refuse!
