I have always loved anything with studs and spikes, even before they came into fashion, but no matter how many shops I visited or websites I trawled, I could never find exactly what I was looking for.
I wanted a jacket that was totally unique, eye-catching and fitting with my own personal style so I thought... Why not do it myself?
From as far back as I can remember I was customising my clothes, adding patches, cutting patterns, sticking gems, but this jacket was something new, something exciting and I am in love with the finished product.
I kept this one simple with studs on the lapels and cuffs and taller spikes on the shoulders but I am already itching to begin a new project with a more detailed design.
I wore the studded tailcoat with pride last weekend for a visit to Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge in the North of Ireland. I matched it with my spiked Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" boots and a Guess handbag with silver detail.
Perhaps the funniest aspect of this trip was the lady who came running over to me as I left the car and said "Excuse me love, your shoes and your jacket are fabulous but have you got any idea where you are going...?" Never being one to dress appropriately, I trecked on down the 1km pathway and the 183 steps to the wobbly rope bridge and even managed to climb the cliff at the other side!
I had a flat pair of spiked loafers with me but I carried those. As the saying goes "Pride feels no Pain"
Jeffrey Campbell would have been very proud!
I hope you like my choice and if you love my customised Tail Coat or have an idea of something similar that you would like yourself, don't be afraid to e-mail me at Nicola@thesequincinderella.com for orders!
